COAT works to integrate research on climate and ecosystems into education - from elementary school to doctoral levels. COAT researchers supervise student projects at bachelor's, master's, and PhD levels and teach courses at UiT – The Arctic University of Norway and UNIS.

On this page, and in the menu to the right, we have gathered the information you need to get started as a student associated with COAT. Here you can find inspiration if you are wondering whether COAT is the right place for you to become a student. You can do this by reading what our current master's and PhD students write about their research and the titles of all our active and graduated students. We also present the courses at UiT that we are responsible for. Elementary school teachers can also find information here about COAT School.

Master's thesis in COAT? All master's theses in COAT include fieldwork, either in the Low-Arctic Finnmark or High-Arctic Svalbard. The fieldwork often involves participation in collecting data for COAT's established long-term monitoring data but can also include more specific data collection for the thesis. COAT theses cover a wide range of topics (see ongoing and completed theses). They are often connected to existing empirical long-term datasets, but theoretical theses and new methodological studies are also possible. Master's theses in COAT usually have several supervisors, both from UiT and other partner institutions in COAT. Does this sound exciting? See our available master's theses.

PhD thesis in COAT? Themes for PhD theses related to COAT will be specified in particular announcements of doctoral positions at the Department of Arctic and Marine Biology and on Jobbnorge. PhD theses related to COAT can cover a wide range of topics and methods (see completed theses). Whether PhD theses are available will depend on doctoral positions allocated to COAT from UiT or external funding sources.

Bachelor's thesis in COAT? It is possible to write a bachelor's thesis in COAT within all our modules. Just contact the module leader in the module that best suits your interests by email or in person. Names of module leaders and contact information can be found on our module pages.

COAT School offers research-based educational programs for use in elementary and secondary schools, and they are part of COAT’s outreach strategy. The main goal of COAT School is to contribute to increased knowledge and awareness of climate change in Northern Norway and Svalbard.

COAT researchers are primarily responsible for the following bachelor's, master's, and PhD courses at UiT-The Arctic University of Norway:
